Eric Idle studied English at Cambridge, where he joined the Footlights and met John Cleese and Graham Chapman. Eric Idle graduated in 1965, and started writing comedy sketches for BBC Radio. David Frost (also a Footlight alum) recruited Eric Idle to work on his Frost Report, where Idle met Terry Jones and Michael Palin. Palin, Jones and Eric Idle would go on to work on Do Not Adjust Your Set, where they would be joined by Cleese friend Terry Gilliam, and the nucleus of what would become Monty Python's Flying Circus was formed. Eric Idle is a favorite SNL guest, where his most remembered for his mock Beatles send-up, The Rutles.
