John Cleese "The Tall One": 1939-. While studying law at Cambridge John Cleese was invited to join the Cambridge Footlight Society, Cambridge's theatrical comedy troupe. While in the Footlights, John Cleese met future Pythonians (and writing partners) Graham Chapman and Eric Idle. After matriculating, John toured with The Cambridge Circus, an outgrowth of his Footlights work. John Cleese came to the States and worked on humor magazine "Help!" where he met future Python Terry Gilliam (The American One). After a stint writing for Newsweek, John Cleese returned to the UK, where he joined the writing staff of the Frost Report alongside Chapman and Idle. His post- Python work includes the internationally syndicated sit-com Fawlty Towers and the hit film A Fish Called Wanda.
