Terry Gilliam "The American One": 1940-.

Terry Gilliam grew up in Minnesota and Southern California, before attending Occidental College. After college, Terry Gilliam found employment working for legendary satirist Harvey Kurtzman (Mad Magazine) on his new magazine Help! Following a stint in the National Guard, Terry worked at a variety of jobs in editorial, advertising and illustration jobs before making his way to London. In London, Terry Gilliam renewed his acquaintance with fellow Help alumni John Cleese, who got Gilliam a job working on animations for the BBC program Do Not Adjust Your Set. This would lead, in turn, to Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Terry Gilliam's distinctive visual sense, so much a part of the Monty Python mystique, has translated into a successful post-Python film directorial career. Some of Terry Gilliam's celebrated motion picture oeuvre includes, Brazil, 12 Monkeys, Time Bandits, and The Fisher King.
